ABOUT ME

Who is Sean Spoon?

Sean Spoon is a teacher, educator, empath, bodyworker, actor, director and yogi. The Somatic Arts Hub est. 2021 brings his years of experience and commitment to lifelong learning to a wider audience and represents his contribution to creating a more grounded, creative, skillful and compassionate world.

Born and raised in “The Steel City”, Sheffield, England Sean moved to the capital, London when he was eighteen to attend one of the prestigious drama schools there and pursue a career as a stage and screen actor. In 2001 a close friend encouraged him to teach at a local school. He enjoyed it and straddled the acting and teaching world until qualifying officially in 2005. This led to him volunteering for a year, acting and teaching in Spain where he learned the language.

Upon his return to the UK he spent the next decade teaching Drama and Performance to high-school and university students, whilst obtaining his Master’s degree in Actor Training & Coaching. At the same time, a deeper calling led to him undertaking profound explorations into spirituality, meditation and shamanism.

In 2011 he created his screen-acting methodology, The Embodied Objective, based on the Rasaboxes training of Prof. Richard Schechner, and began teaching it at The International School of Screen Acting, London. In 2013 he took a sabbatical and lived for a year in Thailand, spending most of that time with his father, and conducting his second bodywork training in Chi Nei Tsang (Abdominal Organ Massage). It was also around this time in 2014 that he began his practice in the Nichiren Buddhist faith. In 2016, he left the stability of his teaching positions to explore other work and lifestyle opportunities around the world.

In 2011 he created his screen-acting methodology, based on the Rasaboxes training of Prof. Richard Schechner, and began teaching it at The International School of Screen Acting, London. In 2013 he took a sabbatical and lived for a year in Thailand, spending most of that time with his father, and conducting his second bodywork training in Chi Nei Tsang (Abdominal Organ Massage), as well as beginning his practice in the Nichiren Buddhist faith.

In 2016, he left the stability of his teaching positions in order to explore other work and lifestyle opportunities around the world.

This first took him to South America, which quite unexpectedly led to him training in Tantra Hatha Yoga in the mountains of Colombia. In an unpredictable twist, Tantra Hatha Yoga brought him back around the world to South-East Asia, in order to deepen his knowledge, and obtain his Yoga teaching certificate. He also spent this time refining and broadening his bodywork skills with further massage trainings in Indonesia and Cambodia. At the same time he expanded his field of teaching to include EFL, Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten students.

In 2020, he trained in TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises), created by Dr. David Berceli, as a response to the impacts of the Covid pandemic that he witnessed in himself and others in his community. The profundity of this modality quickly led to him identifying it as the missing piece in his narcissistic abuse recovery, which had upturned his psychological reality and shut down his body two years previous. For this discovery he is immensely grateful.

A lover of Ecstatic, Latin and African dance, singing, playing ukelele, sport and the outdoors, and a curious enquirer in the fields of education, psychology, parapsychology, neurology, philosophy, affective sciences, white privilege, race and trauma, Sean continues to straddle the worlds of education, bodywork and wellbeing.

“I've had quite a few Chi Nei Tsang in my time, and this was hands down one of the best sessions I've ever received. It somehow integrated the deep pressure and strength of Chi Nei Tsang whilst also remaining really soft, gentle & caring in approach; much to do with Spoon's energy I believe, and also a lot of heart chakra work, which was new & unexpected but really beautiful; making the session feel really unique and thoughtful... I felt Spoon worked very intuitively and could really feel his passion and experience. Cannot recommend enough!”
